The Power of the Personal

Koonj justifies her sharing of personal matters on an open blog, with the observation that it has nurtured a sense of community amongst the Muslim diaspora:

Many times I seriously thought about putting an end to the personal sharing, the woman talk, the baby talk, talk about trying to be an immigrant no matter where I am. But then I got messages from single women who spoke about the anguish of trying to carve out “new lives as educated, professional Muslim women; from immigrants who felt the yearning for a life lost; from women who struggled to bring different lives together. They seemed to get some joy, some satisfaction from reading this blog. And that forced me to keep going.
