What is True Eloquence?

Update: Softest of Tongues has posted a follow on entry, that discusses the miraculous eloquence of the Qur’an.

In The Qur’an, eloquence has reached a seemingly unattainable level, appreciable only to those deeply familiar with the Arabic language. So powerful is the divine speech that it literally leaves a conscious reader, recitor, or listener in a state of ecstasy, almost unable to breath.

This article is not a discussion about Islam, but nonetheless is quite relevant to the blogosphere:

Simply knowing (or writing, or speaking) words, no matter how “beautiful� they are individually, does not enable one to compose a beautiful sentence, nor a beautiful paragraph, nor a beautiful page, etc: no more than than beautiful handwriting makes one a good writer. The beauty must be twofold: of content and delivery. Speech, writing: these are the tools of delivery. Content comes from within.
