Imams Are Not The Problem

Kamal Nurudeen critiques a recent study conducted by the BBC, on Imams in Britain:

Geaves claims that the background of imams trained in places like India is unsuitable to serve in a secular democracy where Islam is a minority religion. Such is this professor’s ignorance that he doesn’t even realise that India is itself a secular democracy in which Islam has always been a minority religion! By his own criteria, imams from India have exactly the background and experience needed for Britain.

Jazakallah to Kamal for the tip.

  1. Great article. I just followed the link to ummahpulse.co.uk and it is an excellent site as well - loads of good stuff.

  2. “Study conducted by BBC on Imamas in Britain”

sounds like any another BBc’s farce on Islam

BTW where are ‘Islamic organisations’ which
should be responsible for what their Imams
should be doing, if any Imam is not apt, why
he is not sanctionned ? The community must be
    responsible and should not ‘profit’from
denouncing right and left, by Media,
” very sympathatic ” towards Islam & muslims.

  3. they may not be the ‘problems’ but they very often are not equipped well to handle the media attention.

  4. Strange, I don’t recall reading this article before, and it in no way influenced my recent post with the same title.

    Just co-incidence, I suppose.

Contributor: do you have any ideas as to how they can be better equipped? What can we do to help?

  5. One way to handle the media is simply to be quite!! if you can’t handle the situation, even if it means they go after “moderate Muslims” or “progressives”. I know it hurts to listen to them because it huts me alot to listen these progressive voices. Just remember to fear Allah(swt) and remember Allah(swt) Is Just and their time will come, Insha’Allah.
