A minor on democracy

By Copenhagen Interpretation

Democracy fully realized has one instantiated form in history that is becoming ever more worthy of serious study: The Third Reich: the supreme bourgeois dream of an earthly paradise complete with autobahn, aircondition, astroturf, cable tv, two car garage, and kidney shaped pool.

One of the main traits of democracy and hence of fascism is mass media, mass culture. The tenets of capitalism, democracy and fascism coincide in the one uniform maxim: Give the people what they want: bread and circus. Everyone is a star. Everyone is equal. The democratic animal: the bourgeois – abhors the individual although he pretends to extol his virtue. The bourgeois while praising the individual sells the ten-headed seven-horned beast of status quo: profanum vulgus. Notice that every individual in a democracy drinks The Real Thing. Eats at McDonalds. Vacations en masse. Shops in the same malls. Malls are the ultimate cultural expression of the democrat, as are Walmart, Harrods, IKEA, etc. God forbid craftsmen and artisans with identifiable taste and expression!

Universal equality is his basic tenet, universal sameness. Hitler, the ultimate democrat was no better than the common German, on the contrary, he made every German feel great, feel that he was just like them and they him. Therein lies the attraction of Hitler, of George W. Bush. That scum by manifest destiny reach apotheosis. That scum rule universal. That is capitalist marketing at its best. That everyone everywhere agrees to buy the same uniform product and praise himself for being so distinctive and original, yet so utterly down on the farm and natural.

To ask a democrat what he means is to hold him to his word and this to the democrat is the ultimate violation. To hold him to his word is tantamount to assigning him responsibility for his actions. Abu Ghraib was built and run by clean, efficient, well functioning democrats. The kind Hannah Arendt described so well: the petty bourgeois bureaucrat doing “his job,” running the camps, following orders, just like everyone else. The people who opposed the Prophet were bourgeois: good old spineless middle class “balancing grain sacks” whose greatest fear was a fluctuation in the markets, the disruption of business, loss of profit. Their descendants have now turned the Haram of Mecca into the centerpiece of a vast disneyfied neon-lit mall, equally as gaudy and “convenient.” They’ve airconned the strip between Safa and Marwa. Built public toilets atop the house of our lady Khadija. Paved the Sanctum in the ultimate in middle class “taste:” cheap white marble. Countless horrors have they committed.

Their “Qur’an and Sunna” salesreps in learned uniform who constantly assert that the religion is easy as DIY, who teach you to follow no one, who teach universal sameness, have for the third year in a row SEEN the new moon of Ramadan on a Friday. And the “I’m an enlightened individual equal to any scholar, I studied engineering, marketing, business science, IT, at Nonesuch University, I don’t follow no one” FOLLOWERS buy it. WHY? Because it is convenient. Because it is fitting that the first day of Ramadan fall on a government holiday when the bourse is closed. Because to them it is only just that religion be punctual and conform to their habits. Could they straighten out the moon they’d do so, the scab-ridden curs.
