Da discusses his recent trip to Eastern China, and his impressions of the indigenous Muslim population, known as the Hui:

I am pleased, firstly, with the way Hui seem secure in their Chinese cultural identity. There is little or no pressure to become a counterfeit Arab or Central Asian; matters like Tawhid (unity of god) and a more classical Muslim philosophy seemed to be stressed, not outward appearances.

    as culturelly you are linked directly with
    chinese History, you are not obliged to go
    against Chinese Govt. or people to please
    West. just stay faithfull to your country,
    respect others and believe your own faith,
    Believe and trust Allah
    respect all others,
    don’t consume alcohol, as it is a social evil,
    don’t eat pork, as it contains tania solium, &
    not allowed in Islam.
    Respect women as Islam requires,
    pay Zakat to the community, help others also,
    pray if possible collective or individual, time
    you can.
