Aadaab of the Muhaditheen
What is the status of a teacher in Islam? “In Shaykh’s Company” gives some examples of the respect afforded to the respected Muhaditheen and scholars of the past.
It is related about some Muhaditheen that after the death of their teacher they would never sleep on a bed. The rationale behind this was that they felt it was disrespectful that they should sleep above the ground under which their teacher was buried. Thus they would sleep on the floor without any bedding.
