South Africa stands on a brink-I can safely bet as of tonight thousands(if not more)of South Africans are looking at emigration options.
We stand on a brink. After thirteen years of growth and stability, the future looks uncertain once more. We have a role to play, even though it may not be lucid at present.
We cannot abandon our country. We need not fear the abyss we may never reach.

The view presented above is solely from the writer. As an African, I have not witnessed among Black South Africans the growth and stability the author refers to. Nor does the author try to clarify.

Shukran for choosing my post for Ijtema. However, I have to say with regard to the excerpt posted, that it was written off the top of my head immediately after the results were announced. Therefore I wasn’t aiming to state & clarify. It wasn’t meant to be an analytical piece. I’m a journalist,so maybe I should have written a balanced article though.
Indeed, Mbeki did fail the poor, and I was against his neoliberal policies. However, these policies have resulted in a wealth of young black millionaires, and I applaud them their success. I’d applaud them even more though, if that wealth was distributed to the brethren hey left behind in the townships on their way up to the suburbs.
When compared to the rest of Africa, SA is stable & has experienced growth & we cannot deny this.
Congratulations on being a part of Ijtema-a praiseworthy initiative. May Allah reward you all.
