Salaam 'alaikum gess,

Speaking for myself, a Muslim, an American, and an ethnic minority, I will try to convey to you why I support Barak Obama in the presidential race.

Senator Obama is the one man in my lifetime who I believe would actually represent me in the office of the executive.
He is a progressive in the best sense of the term- someone who envisions a sounder, more inclusive politics, who would champion the rights of those of the most needy, who challenges us to be full citizens and who is, by all accounts, a "true believer" that the potential for good in this country is equal in measure to it's currently misused power.
And even if his foreign policy team has erred in the past, his views on race (a huge problem in the U.S.), the economy, the environment, education and health-care all represent a dramatic and much needed change from the Bush years. And on that alone, he is, far and away, the best choice.

As for the Pakistan question-
Can he run on a pacifist platform? Of course not.
Can he ignore the real dangers of an unstable nuclear power? No, he cannot and should not.

(And by the way, his original contention, that Northern Pakistan poses a bigger strategic threat than Iraq {which before the posed no threat at all}, is 100% correct, even if his rhetoric about bombs and surgical strikes was exaggerated for effect.)

Fortunately for us in the U.S. our president won't be selected on the basis of one issue alone.

Wa'aleikum salaam.

Well, speaking for my own opinion, it is "our election" too even though "we" are not Americans. U.S. military operations in and military relations with 53 African nations, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. is a good case to call it, "our election". Don't you agree yes or no?

And since we have you in our humble site, what change does Barak Obama want to bring, domestically and outside Unite States. Thank you.

gess.

As Salaam Alaikum,

Let me state that the truth of the matter is, it is not a world election, but a US election. While there is truth in what you speak, ultimately when American's vote, we are voting for our best interests.

Those of us that support Obama support Change, because we believe he will usher in a different type of politics. We understand that there are things that are said on campaign trails and in the past, but ultimately we vote based on what we believe that person will do as President.

I for one believe that Obama as President will make sound decisions better than what has happened in the past.

Now I could just be very critical of countries outside the US and say, why don't you fix your political issues, but that wouldn't solve anything.

However, what I will say is that it takes two to tango and oftentimes, the criticism levied at the US is scapegoating. Just like you want us to be more responsible for who we elect, so should you.

A great deal of what is happening in the world is not the fault of the US or Presidents that cycle out every 4 - 8 years, but individuals on the ground who unlike Americans have not decided to take matters in their own hands. We may have at times supported dictators and oppressive regimes, but is not persecution worse than slaughter?

We can only support those whom you allow to oppress.

Allah (swt) helps those who help themselves. It's fine to criticize the US on our ills, it's fine to criticize our elections and our candidates, but when will you take back your countries?

When will you rise up and declare your independence?

Blaming the US, Jews, and everyone else solves nothing as long as you sit there and do nothing but complain.

Our policies adapt based on the realities on the ground. Is Obama responsible for what happens on the streets in your towns? What about Bush? What have you done about it?
