Masjid Haram and Madinah Expansion Plans

Darul-Ishaat has collected a number of models and mockups of expansion and renovation plans in and around the Haramain.

The projects, including expansion of the mosque’s northern courtyard and construction of residential towers, are aimed at providing more housing and prayer facilities for pilgrims.

The projects include the SR12 billion Jabal Omar residential towers, one of the largest ventures aimed at developing areas surrounding the Holy Haram. Spread over an area of 230,000 square meters, the project includes five-star hotels, commercial centers and prayer facilities for 200,000 worshippers.

Other projects dedicated by the Crown Prince were: Development of Ajyad General Hospital, which is located close to the mosque, and construction of another road to Haram parallel to the existing road from the Jeddah-Makkah Expressway. The new five-km road, to be named after King Abdul-Aziz, is designed to benefit pilgrims.

It is sad that these obviously necessary improvements of the Haramain infrastructure further contribute to the disappearance of the old, “traditional” image of those areas…

For Hajjis or tourists ?

@ particularly, the sights historically very
significant for Islamic History and the heritage of SA, I hope tourism will not be
prefered in choosing areas important for not
only islamic but perhaps pre-islamic as well
We have observed important spots around Mecca
and between medinah and haramain been demolished and destroyed for the sack of
expansion in order to fecilitate more Hujjajs,

Rasul-Allah (SAW) predicted, that at the end
approaching Al Qyamah, most of the Hajis will
be just tourist and visitors.
(correct me if am wrong pls.)

Salam, I think they should keep some places in Makkah and Madinah as a resevation or untouch for historical sites, without demolishing its original landscape in the time of Rasul(PBUH)and places which are sacred with full of histories with lessons into something different. I am aware that the Hajj will attract more people from its previous years, therefore more development and services are needed for the pilgrims. But there should be some other alternatives, like for example how to make life easier for more and more pilgrims every year without changing the environment as much as possible to meet both the expansion of the Two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah to accomodate worshippers and to keep its original envionment and landscape as it was at the time of the Prophet(PBUH), especially places which are seen or mentioned as significant.

Salam, Apart from expansion, I think some areas need the natural environment which I feel is important and leaving it exactly as it was in the time of Rasul(PBUH) gives the pilgrim the divine understanding how the prophet(PBUH) lived and makes the Heart clear from all obstacles

it should be noted that it will be alot easier for pilgrims to focus the rewards hereafter for performing the sacred rituals during Hajj, especially when the hearts are clear from obstacles.

THIS IS A REPLY TO RAFAY KASHMIRI & ANYONE PRACTISING THE SAME.

WHEN EVER YOU QUOTE A HADITH, PLEASE ALSO QUOTE THE TRADITIONS YOU HAVE TAKEN IT FROM, QUOTE THE SOURCE, THE BOOK, WHICH IMAM SAID IT. OR YOU JUST HEARD IT FROM SOMEONE OR WORSE, I HOPE NOT, IT WAS JUST YOUR WHIM.

MAY ALLAH PROTECT US FROM MAKING FALSE ACCUSATIONS AND FALSELY QUOTING QURAN AND SUNNAH.

REGARDING SANCTITY OF PLACES THAT HOLD ISLAMIC HISTORICAL VALUE, WE WILL AGAIN HAVE TO LOOK IF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (SAW) PRACTISED ANY SUCH PRINCIPLE DURING HIS LIFETIME. OR EVEN THE 4 CALIPHS OF ISLAM. LASTLY, IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE SAUDI GOVT. HELD A MEETING OF OVER 70 ISLAMIC SCHOLARS WORLDWIDE TO KNOW IF SUCH AN EXPANSION IS IN ANYWAY UNISLAMIC. THEY GOT THE APPROVAL. THE REASON BEING NO. OF HAJIS INCREASING EVERY YEAR, AS NUMBER OF MUSLIMS IS INCREASING GLOBALLY – ALHAMDOLILAH – NATURALLY, THE CAPACITY OF THE MOSQUE & RESIDENTIAL AREA HAD TO BE EXPANDED.

There are always Advantages, and Disadvantages. Having this expansion has helped alhamdulillah, but the disadvantage is that many people that owned part of that land has lost it.Some owners where original makkans. NeverMind That. But why are they building massive hottels.Wheres the profit going to go, to the people or to the Goverment. It was said expansion, NOt building 4 5 Stars hotels. Allah Forgive us from All of this. Only Allah Can Judge Perfectly.

Salamun Alaikum,

Master Plans seem to be workable. Historic Sites to be retained. Pedestrian movements to be encouraged at KABBA LEVEL. Vehicular movements to be maintained at lower level, to avoid conflict of both. Landscaped coutyards and open spaces to be encouraged in a systematic pattern, to access residential units (low, medium & highrise units in the form of housing, walk-up apartments, highrise hotels & towers etc). A skyline to be maintained as per the surrounding character of the building structures. Future expansion to be considered strongly – Alhamdoolillah ISLAM is expanding fast everywhere.
Jazakallah Wa Khairun
