Blog for SISTERS Magazine

Sister Na’ima of SISTERS asked me to inform you about the magazine’s latest blogging initiative, open to both brothers and sisters. The deadline for submission is close, so get writing quick!

Bismillah
Asalaamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu!
Greetings from me, Na’ima B. Robert, and the rest of the team at SISTERS, the magazine for Muslim women.

I am writing to tell you about a very exciting development over at the new SISTERS website.

Every fortnight, we will be featuring an article from a blogger from out there in the blogosphere on a set of topics set by the SISTERS team. The chosen blog entries will be featured on the website, linked from our homepage, in our forum and receive a complimentary pdf of the latest issue.
But now we need your submissions!

So, to kick-start this new feature, we are asking you to ruminate and reflect on the following statements, each inspired by an article in the latest issue of SISTERS:

“Are we taught to be ashamed of our womanhood?”
“Cross-cultural marriages are more trouble than they are worth”
“Marriage in Islam is about duty, not love and romance”

Agree? Disagree? Get writing!
Submissions should be original, up to 600 words and in keeping with ISlamic guidelines. Other than that, feel free to air your views and, hopefully, get some healthy, enlightening debate going on our website.

I look forward to reading your entries. Deadline for submissions is 4th of July.

JazakAllahu khairan
Wasalaam

Na’ima B. Robert

PS. Please forward this to other bloggers you know or publicise it on your blogging community websites! Submissions are open to brothers and sisters.

  1. Thats a very wonderful thing, But I am not sure as to where am I to submit my Article ??
Can you please tell me where ??

  2. Maryam,

Try the Submissions page on the Sisters website for contact information (there is an e-mail address there that you can use, probably.)

We probably should include the submission instructions in the post somewhere, though.

  3. I have applied TWICE to Sisters Magazine but received no response. The email address to which I sent my query article (yup, I wrote a 100% original article as submission) was editor@sisters-magazine.com. I have Na’ima on my Facebook friends list; I sent her 2 messages there regarding submissions to Sisters, and received no response.

Well, I am usually NOT a negative person, but I guess it’s no surprise that I will not be applying to Sisters again, despite being very interested in working for the magazine. I have experience of writing as well as blogging (I write for Hiba Magazine but it’s very possible that maybe they did not receive my application.

So, I will also reiterate that the above advertisement should provide a valid email address where bloggers can send in their entries.
    Wassalam.

  4. Sis, I am sorry to hear about your problems with SISTERS, but just to clarify: this entry was simply a voluntary announcement, not strictly an ‘advertisement’. At present, Ijtema.net is not officially affiliated or sponsored by any other organisation, magazine or website. As with our other posts, this was simply a means to notify our readers of something interesting in the blogosphere that they may want to check out. We are not responsible for the action or inaction of the third parties that we link to.

Now having got that whole stuffy disclaimer out of the way, I will also contact sis Na’ima, insha’Allah, to see if we can figure out what went wrong. It’s sad that you went through such effort, only to face a brick wall. Plus it doesn’t look good for the magazine!

  5. Thanks a lot for your polite response. I guess I blew off some steam! :-) I totally understand that your website is not responsible. My intention for my previous comment was to let readers of this advertisement know that I went through some hassle trying to contact the SISTERS editorial team, so they should double-check where they send their queries to, before actually putting in the hard work. I wanted others to be saved of any trouble or miscommunication.
The article I sent as submission to Sisters Magazine has already been published online in two places. Alhamdulillah it was very well-received by the readers of both websites. I published it here at howtodothings and at the farhathashmi blog.

And I do apologize for my tone; it was purely uinitentional, if I sounded like I was blaming ijtema.net.
    Wassalam.
