Video of the Week: The Story of Abu Qudama & the Young Boy

Video of the week, brought to you by IslamicTube.net.

This is a heart wrenching story narrated by Abu Qudama, a 10th century Muslim general from Iraq, about a young man called Muhammad who devoted his whole life to the cause of Islam – fulfilling his vow to his widowed mother to follow in his fathers footsteps and become a warrior, fighting for the sake of Allah to defend the weak.

This talk by Bilal Assad, extracted from the lecture ‘Those who desire Paradise’, takes us through the sequence of events in which Abu Qudama is introduced to this young man, and how his shining example of bravery and faith in Allah carried him through to his very last breath when he fell as a martyr. Love for the Prophet & MuslimFest 2008

Salaams,

Your local art guru with another update!

Okay – you have to check out the above video, it has to be one of the coolest adverts I have ever seen!!!

The story of Khaled Ibn Alwalid’s famous love to the Prophet (pbuh) moment in the battle of Al-Yarmouk when he lost his helmet. He always had few strands hidden in the helmet. Shot by Oscar winning Director Stephan Ruzowisky.

I know that has nothing to with art but I thought it looked cool!!!

Right – Something more to the subject…..

In Canada MuslimFest 2008 is getting ready to kick off!!!

To be honest, many of you (myself included) may not know what MuslimFest is, so let me break it down.

MuslimFest celebrates the best in Muslim arts and entertainment. The event attracts over 10,000 visitors every year and takes place in the City of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. MuslimFest 2008, sponsored by IRFAN Canada, was voted one of Ontario’s top 100 events to attend by Festival and Events Ontario.

I know what you saying – why I am bringing this up because the event doesn’t start till August? Well..sit down ya crazy fool and I’ll explain.

MuslimFest Call for Entries has been launched. If you enjoy a talent in any form of art (International Art Exhibit, FilmFestival, and Performance) or know someone who does, make sure you participate this year for an extremely rewarding experience.

I like to point out the above statement wasn’t written by me, I mean c’mon – its sounds so cheesy!

It must be a good thing if you’re an artist of some sort and you want to expose yourself. However, I must warn you that there is a lot of hidden costs in the small print. So it makes you kinda think what’s their true objective?!?

Anyways, if money isn’t a problem then download an application form from their website.

Take care everyone,

Wasalaams

Video of the Week: Divine GPS

“Video of the week” brought to you by HalalTube.com.

Nowadays GPSs are as common as cellphones. In fact even cellphones have GPS capabilities.  Millions of people and companies rely on the 12 satellites orbiting the Earth in order to keep track of their packages and locations.  How does this relate to the daily life of a Muslim?  Listen to Sh. AbdulBary Yahya speak about the ‘Divine GPS’ which guides all Muslims on the straight path to our Lord!

Al Mahabba Awards for Islamic Art

Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah

My name is Teakster and I have been made the new Islamic arts editor. I not sure how this occurred but personally blame the milkshake they tricked me into drinking. Next thing I know, I had signed away a part of my life.

I am a bit of cowboy artist as I like to make pretty pictures, so society has labelled me an “artist”. I will be highlighting a different piece of Islamic Art/Photography each week, in order to promote the work of Muslim artists, plus any big art events.

Speaking of events……currently in Abu Dhabi is the 2008 Al Mahabba Awards.

Al Mahabba Awards is an annual event that is held to promote and reward artistic expressions of love for the Prophet Mohammed, Peace be upon Him.

For more information, watch the inspiring video above, and check out the Mahabba Awards website.
