CAPTIVATED: The Art of the Interned

Here’s the second part of today’s Art News post… (first part here)

If you’re also in the UK, and in London, then check out the gallery – “CAPTIVATED: The Art of the Interned“.

Cageprisoners and Together: working for well-being, are hosting a unique art exhibition, comprising the works of those men, detained without trial in the UK, to highlight the mental health concerns and the hidden human tragedy taking place, all in the name of security.

On that note – Catch ya later people!

Emerald Art Competition

Hey everyone,

Big thanks to everyone who reads my rubbish. It’s good to know that I give something nice to read about. Actually, let me know where you guys are from. The furthest place I heard was Australia. I wonder if any of you guys can beat that and let me know if you come from anywhere interesting?!

Anyways, back to my post…….!!!

Okay, now for something a little bit different. In the UK there is a social network by the name of Emerald Network. Their vision is to enable Muslims to enhance their ‘Muslim network’ for their own benefit – whether that may be social or business purposes.

Photographer Muhsin Kilby

Hey people,

I hope you’re all well!

Okay…I was thinking what to show you this week in the art world, when something hit me.

Apart from Peter Sanders, not much is known about other Muslim photographers. I mean think about it: apart from your friend or crazy uncle that calls himself a photographer because he take random snaps using his disposable camera, not much is know about the real big players.

So that’s what I’m gonna focus on today. The photographer I have chosen is Muhsin Kilby.

Now here’s the part where I write a short bio:

Muhsin Kilby (formally known as Jak Kilby) is a freelance photographer based in London. He operates a Photo Library of his work and is also, on occasion, a writer.

He works principally as a documentary photographer. Has supplied photographs to all the broadsheet newspapers in the UK and worked extensively on projects concerning Palestine, Jerusalem and Masjid Al-Aqsa. He has produced several educational exhibitions in this respect.

For more information and to see his work, check out his site.

What did 1000 Sisters have to say?

SISTERS magazine in conjunction with Ummah Foods recently ran a survey, asking 1000 Muslim women what’s on their mind. Wow, they were brave!

The results were published in the Observer, and sister Na’ima Roberts, editor of SISTERS, also wrote a separate piece.

She wants to marry her soulmate, shops in Primark, TK Maxx and Topshop, and dreams of starting her own business. Meet the typical Muslim woman in Britain today.

A thousand women throughout the country have responded to the biggest lifestyle study of Muslim women undertaken in the UK. It appears to show that Muslim women have established a delicate balance between a desire to live a contemporary lifestyle and tap into consumer trends while sticking to values underpinning the Islamic guide to life.
