Visibly stunned by the protests, Israel’s Ambassador stood silent as protests chanted “fight the power, turn the tide; End Israeli Apartheid!” Throughout the disruption, over twelve thousand pieces of brightly colored protest-confetti were showered across the conference room and throughout the hallways of the Queen Elizabeth hotel, carrying a simple message: “60 years of Israeli Apartheid, 60 years of Palestinian dispossession; Boycott Israel!”

Why pick on Israel?

(Forty years have passed since the (in)famous six day war, which Israel waged, not Egypt, mind you. )

Steven Rose argues that an Academic boycott of Israel is necessary in view of the situation. He points out that Palestinian Universities are hindered because Israeli occupation does not allow them to buy books or equipment. He says-

Academic freedom, it appears, applies to Israelis but not to Palestinians.

Israel is even blocking some Jewish professors from lecturing. Guess why?
