Muslim Charity Found Guilty

A Muslim charity in the United States has been found guilty of abetting Hamas

It’s with great sadness that we heard about the verdict of the Holy Land Foundation trial. I find it absolutely appalling that they can convict someone based solely on circumstantial evidence and an anonymous witness. It really begs the question if such a witness would be allowed to testify, in an expert status no less, if the accused had been anything other than Muslim.

Umar Lee writes:

I am asking all of my readers to make a sincere duah for the brothers from the Holy Land Foundation who were convicted yesterday in a federal court in Dallas, Texas. Let it be known that this prosecution by the federal government, one of the last evil acts of the Bush Administration, was not just an attack on the HLF, but an attack on the entire Muslim community of America. The Justice Department under Bush has been highly politicized and it does not help matters that rank and file FBI agents largely come from the white Christian- right. I encourage all Muslims in America and people of good will to send the Feds a message that we will not be intimidated, by writing a check today or donating online to an Islamic charity, and sending a big F you to the Justice Department.

UPDATE: What saddens me is that this comes after a raging debate whether holding a administrative position with a fascist organization (the Vishwa Hindu Parishad) with a successful genocide in it’s list of “achievements” is or not enough to disqualify somebody from the US administration. Turns out, it is not.

Poverty

From kinzi blogs

I know the ’spread the wealth around’ idealism of the US’s  potential new government isn’t going to cut it with real poverty in the US or elsewhere. Spreading the wealth around has to come from the heart to be effective, it has to be born out of personal responsibility to help the poor and is best done in relationship. Jesus Christ said “The poor you will always have with you”, which means those blessed with plenty will always have the responsibility to help those without. Those in hardship in my circle of influence are my responsibility.

On a more micro level, I was talking to a friend on the phone about how the economic crises will affect smaller scale relief work and economic development at a community level. My friend wisely said: “I am endeavoring to make sure this crisis does not affect our giving. It may change the way we give, but we will need to practice extra generosity in a way that will be more sacrificial than before”.

The Writing’s on the Wall: Feed the Poor

Aerosol Arabic is the artwork of artist Mohammad Ali of Birmingham, UK. They have just been putting on the finishing touches to the “Feed the Poor” wall in the Aldi Car Park, Stratford Road, Sparkhill. The final results, and all the steps leading to the complete “Feed the Poor” mural, have been put up on the Aerosol Arabic blog.

What does One Sister have to say?

Sticking with the “sisters” theme, a reminder that there are only a few days left of Halfdate.com’s latest drive:

Before the end of Jumada Ath-thani, 1429 (June 8th, 2008), please help Sister Linda (Widad) Delgado, who runs the one-sister-show of Muslim Writers Publishing, to help teachers by publishing five teacher study guides (TSG).

You are not helping a lazy dude who opt to beg, NO, this sister didnt ask for help, but the community recommeded HalfDate to help her. She had TWO HEART ATTACKS, yet, ma-sha-Allah still serving our community and doesnt want the focus to be on her.

If you contribute between May 24 to May 31, LivingHalal.com will match $1 for $1 towards this cause.

Cholera Risk In Iraq

Last-of-Iraqis has set up a Cholera vaccine appeal, in response to the recent outbreak in Northern Iraq. This is a photo of his drinking water!

What a shock , I immediately brought the camera and took the picture and video . is this drinking water or is it rice water? what are those floating things? I know about the cholera , I know it might be epidemic in Baghdad but I’ll be so lucky if this water only contains cholera bacteria! how could they give us this water , why should I respect or obey or even recognize my government they are not providing us with electricity , water and even security, each Iraqi house should be a country and have a flag and it’s own government , I depend on my self on electricity , water and even security , what a farce.

An Appeal for Ramadan Appeals

I thought i’d set this entry up to call on readers to advertise any special Ramadan appeals they are aware of, that other readers may be able to help out on. So far, i have heard of the following two – please add your own to the comments section:

Ramadan Bags 2007 – Feeding The Needy

The concept is basically an initiative to aid the poor & needy families of Egypt to feed themselves during the Holy month of Ramadan while preserving their dignity by allowing them to eat within their own homes & in a family atmosphere. Each food bag feeds a family of 4 for a week & costs the same if not less than what the average person spends during a single lunch hour in the UK……….. 5!

Disclaimer: Ijtema.net does not taking personal responsibility for the legitimacy of any of the appeals mentioned in this thread; it is a matter for your own investigation, and involves a certain amount of trust in Allah! May Allah accept our good deeds, and yours. Ameen.
